Congratulations Helvellyn at 80

We luckily had perfect weather for our Sunday walking

the Edges and what a great day we had on the fell.

A very wet and windy day on Helvellyn

We did Helvellyn in the rain, hail and snow! Not

to mention gale force winds. However, it was a good

day out on the fell.

After a 20min walk
from Patterdale Hall
Estate we spent an
enjoyable morning
rock climbing
overlooking Ullswater.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Duck Race 2009
Every Easter Monday
afternoon Glenridding Beck
is overrun by thousands of
yellow ducks in order to raise
money for the local voluntary
Mountain Rescue Team.

Catstye Cam

We walked up from Greenside Mine via Red Tarn,

then down the East ridge of Catstye Cam and back

to Glenridding.

A Snowy Helvellyn

Raise & Sheffield Pike
Very cold/ icy/windy
on tops but come
down lower than
750m ish and it's
fairly pleasant as long
as you don't stand
around for too long.

Went to see what it was
like on the edges & tops
however the most technical
part was getting onto the
fells (plus the top of Swirral)!
Lots of ice down low with a
sprinkling of snow over 450m,
by the look of the clouds there may be more snow.

Friends & Family New Year walk
A short walk around
Glenridding with the
little ones. The North
side of the valley was
like spring & the South
is still in winter! We also
had to stop in The Travellers Rest for a warm
drink/pint.

Short walk to Silver Crag

Just before sadly leaving Glenridding
& The Inn on the Lake we went on a
short walk to Silver Crag and back.

Walking from Howtown up Place
Fell to Patterdale then Glenridding

We took the 9:45 Ullswater Steamer to Howtown then walked in the wind & some rain over Place Fell (657m) to the White Lion Inn Patterdale for a spot of lunch. After lunch we walked on the more scenic paths back to Glenridding.

Aira Force & Greenside Mine walks
After a morning of heavy
rain we set out to have a
walk around Aira Force to
see the waterfalls. Once
back in Glenridding we
left The Inn on the Lake
and walked to Greenside
Mine to then find ourselves
in The Travellers Rest enjoying a pint of Helvellyn Gold!

The Ullswater lakeshore path
Starting from Glenridding we took

an Ullswater Steamer to

Howtown & walked to Pooley

Bridge via The Cockpit. After a

lunch stop in The Sun Pooley

Bridge we jumped back on the

Steamer and walked from

Howtown to Glenridding on the lakeshore path.

Glenridding Dodd & down Seldom Seen

A delightful afternoon's walk from Glenridding to the

summit of Glenridding Dodd & down Seldom Seen to

finish walking along Lake Ullswater.

A quick trip around The Edges

A nice morning so I did a

quick walk from Glenridding

to Red Tarn, up to High Spying

How, along Striding Edge to

Helvellyn. Then back home via

Swirral Edge & Catstye Cam.

The sun even made an

appearance on the way back

down.
